Txpuhil is a quiet town that is suddenly devastated by a terrible plague, which plunges its peaceful and hard-working inhabitants into hunger and poverty. In their desperate effort to save the town, the governor and the priest decide to send Kikul, the governor?s eldest son, to other lands in search of a solution to the town?s problems. But it will not be an easy voyage for Kikul, who encounters numerous obstacles that not only endanger the mission but his very life.
